BUCKHANNON — The M.I.B. Gallery is pleased to announce “laying in the darks,” a solo exhibition by Kylie Proudfoot-Payne.

The exhibition opened Friday, February 23, through Saturday, March 23, 2024. The artist reception will be held this Friday, March 1, from 4 to 8 p.m., with an artist talk at 5 p.m. The reception will also include a dance performance and the unveiling of a community-based painting.

The gallery is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m. or by appointment. The M.I.B. Gallery is located at 48 East Main Street in downtown Buckhannon, WV and all gallery events are free and open to the public.

Proudfoot’s paintings explore the balance between the light and shadows within the natural landscape. Her paintings lead the viewer into a feeling of wonderment through the Impressionistic-like landscapes that document our changing environment. This exhibition combines traditional paintings with NFC technology, which viewers can scan with their phones to further explore the landscape.

Kylie’s paintings introduce an additional layer of engagement through the use of scannable NFC (near field communication) tags, which allow the audience to experience the art through their phones via audio clips and videos.
