The West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball team opened the season with two big wins over regional opponents, topping West Chester and Kutztown in a tournament hosted by West Liberty.
The Bobcats tipped off their official 2018-2019 season on Friday evening with a 80-72 victory over West Chester.
Dusan Vicentic scored 23 points to lead the Bobcats and added five blocks.
Veterans Luka Petrovic, Fred Brondsted and Clay Todd also finished in double figures for the ‘Cats with 13, 10, and 14 points respectively. Petrovic had nine assists in the contest to go along with his 13 points.
On Saturday, the ‘Cats beat Kutztown 74-72 on a Clay Todd jumper with two seconds left. The shot came after a clutch offensive rebound by Daylin Lee.
Wesleyan went into halftime down by nine but surged back with 51 percent shooting in the second half, including 50 percent from beyond the arc. Todd, Brondsted, Vicentic and Petrovic all scored in double figures for Wesleyan.
The Bobcats who would trail most of the second half, but Todd’s last second heroic effort put them ahead for the first time since the 6:40 mark in the first half.
The ‘Cats will stay on the road this week, traveling to Ohio Valley on Thursday and opening Mountain East Conference play on Saturday at Wheeling Jesuit.
