SOUTH WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs couldn’t find the back of the net in a 2-0 road loss to the Lewis County Minutemen in Big 10 Conference action Thursday night.
It was the seventh game this season where the Bucs failed to score.
Lewis County tallied a goal in each half.
Tanner Griffith struck first for Lewis County when he received a throw in from the right side, dribbled in and scored with a goal to the far post.
David Hairfield headed in a corner kick to the back post for Lewis County with under four minutes remaining to ice the game away.
“I thought we started out well,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “We matched their intensity and had several really good looks at the net and gave them limited opportunities on goal. However, that’s a senior led veteran team that has scored a lot of goals this season and those mistakes on the marks and the runs were all it took for them. Some key areas we need to address will be worked on in training then we’ll look to improve those with us returning to play on Saturday.”
The Bucs trailed in shots-on-goal by an 11-5 margin and in corner kicks by a 5-1 count.
B-U was guilty of 10 fouls while Lewis County was called for 12.
Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Slaton Kowalkoski made nine saves while Lewis County goalie Landyn Taylor turned away five shots.
Lewis County improved to 10-2-3 overall and 6-2-3 in the Big 10 Conference.
The loss dropped the Bucs to 5-10-3 overall and 4-4-2 in conference play.
B-U will return to the pitch Saturday hosting University at 10 a.m.
