Canaan Valley Resort offers outdoor adventure, exploration & education weekend of Aug. 4

DAVIS – Canaan Valley Resort will host multiple fun and educational guided hikes, outdoor, live music and much more August 4-6 weekend.

“We recognize guests are interested in getting outdoors while learning new things and the activities we’ve got planned provide the perfect opportunity,” said Matt Baker, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort.

On Friday evening, Aug. 4, as part of the Mountainside Music Series at Quencher’s Patio at the ski area, Ryan Cain & The Ables will perform from 6-9pm slope side. Pub fare, as well as local craft brews, are available for purchase at Quencher’s Pub. Scenic chairlift rides will be available throughout the evening, as well as the weekend.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, the resort will host the Mid-Summer Walk Between the Parks. This eight-mile, moderately strenuous hike between Blackwater Falls State Park and Canaan Valley Resort. Additionally, guests can participate in the Edible Plants Hike from 9-11am and 2-4pm. Taking place on the trails, fields and forests of Canaan Valley State Park, the excursion will introduce participants to techniques for finding and identifying wild plants that are safe to eat. Hikers will also learn how to use trees and plants to build fires, create shelter and for other survival purposes.

Throughout the weekend guests have access to the resort’s outdoor pool, miles of hiking and biking trails, and the 18-hole championship golf course, among other amenities offered at the property.

A Beverly woman allegedly ran a stop sign on Main Street in Buckhannon, causing a Dec. 27 crash that involved three vehicles and struck the First Community Bank building, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department’s wreck report.

Woman extricated after Route 33 crash near Huddle House; truck driver cited

A Salem woman was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated after a two-vehicle crash on Route 33 north of the Huddle House. Police say a truck driver attempting to cross lanes to turn left was cited for failing to yield.
