American Legion Post 7 offers support to local veterans

BUCKHANNON — American Legion Post 7 wants to thank all those who stopped at the post home to have some strawberry shortcake with them this weekend. The proceeds will go to the important and continuing needs our veterans in the area require.

The next effort will kick off on June 3 with the annual Pickin’ on the Hill bluegrass festival at Brooks Hill. Jim Crouse and his wife have decided to join Post 7 in an effort to support our veterans and their survivors in the food challenge so many are dealing with. This year’s event will have a charge for entry which will also include six nonperishable food items.

Following the event, the National Guard, Upshur County Senior Center, and American Legion Post 7 will partner and work to organize all that’s received. On Saturday, June 10, Legionnaires will distribute the food to veterans and spouses in a ‘drive thru’ at the Senior Center beginning at 10 AM. Proof of service required: DD214, VA Card, Armed Forces ID including retired and dependent, Drivers License with ‘Veteran’ noted.

If you aren’t going to be attending the Pickin’ on the Hill music festival, you can still contribute. During the week of May 26 and June 5 between 9 AM and 1PM, Post 7 will be accepting donations of nonperishable food items at the Post Home, 16 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon. Any questions can be made to Post 7 at 304-460-7377.
