WV Dance Company to perform this Friday in the Colonial Arts Center

Buckhannon, W.Va. —WV Dance Company is the only professional touring dance company throughout the state of West Virginia. From school shows with Q-and-As, to evening performances in colleges, universities, community event centers, and many more venues, they will perform in nearly any location they utilize. These dancers are dedicated the art of movement, and sharing with audience members the intimate portraits of the human experience, energetic displays of the power of nature and vibrant images of the nuances of world cultures.

The company will be performing Macker’d, which is a reflection based upon the Shakespeare play Macbeth. The piece was created by Buckhannon native Jax RF McAtee, who is a member of WV Dance Company and is thrilled to be bringing the production to his hometown.

They have one single performance this Friday night, April 28 at 7 pm in the Colonial Arts Center Main Hall on Main St. in Buckhannon. Admission is free for all ages.

“The WV Dance Company has always been a delight to host on the campus of WV Wesleyan,” said Alisa Lively, a Director of the Colonial Arts Center board.  “I have worked for several years with Toneta Akers-Toler, founder and choreographer, in our Arts Alive Series.  The dancers simply bring athleticism, emotion, performance, and musicality to the stage for audiences of all ages.”

While they are in town, the company will also perform a school show for the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School students. These dancers take pride in not only their talents of entertaining, but education tools for students. They are dedicated to spreading the art of dance and movement to all ages.

“When I was approached with the idea to host WV Dance Company in the Colonial, I was ecstatic!” said Anne Wilson, Manager of the CAC. “My colleague and Fine Arts Facilitator for Upshur County Schools, Jakob Spruce, and I both have backgrounds with years of dancing. We are so thrilled to bring them here to our community.”

This event is funded through support from the WV Department of Arts, Culture, and History, The National Endowment for the Arts, and the Buckhannon-Upshur Rotary Club.
