Healthy Heart Fair planned at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital on February 16

WESTON, WV – February is Heart Month, and the cardiology and pulmonary staff at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital are hosting a Healthy Heart Fair on Thursday, February 16 from 11 AM – 1 PM on the ground floor of the hospital.

During the fair, the public can receive free health screenings including weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry. Various vendors will be in attendance including the Lewis County Heart Society, CORE, Family Resource Network, AED Training, and Eye Care.

Additional information will be available on tobacco and vaping cessation, nutrition, and adult fitness.

Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center Cardiologist Dr. Sami Aljohani and Stephanie Barker, NP, will provide information on heart health and a presentation by Chris Hedio, Health Coach will take place at Noon in the administrative classroom.

“With my program as a Health Coach, I work with patients on diet, exercise, stress management and medications to create manageable and positive changes to their health,” said Hedio. “It is individualized with a goal to increase longevity and reduce any health issues they may have.”

Heart disease is the number one cause of death for West Virginians. You can prioritize your heart health by eating a healthy diet, engaging in physical activity, eliminating smoking, and controlling cholesterol and blood pressure levels. It is important to be aware of the signs of a heart attack, including chest pain or discomfort, feeling weak or lightheaded, pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck, back, or in one or both arms or shoulders, and shortness of breath.
