Football ‘Cats tumble on Senior Day to Frostburg State, 37-0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan football team (1-9, 1-8) dropped a home game to Frostburg (7-3, 6-3) on Saturday (Nov. 5) afternoon at Cebe Ross Field.

WVWC Leaders

Wide receiver Devin Washington logged 113 receiving yards. Defensively, Renard Matthews led the group with 11 tackles with both Cameron Lomax and Deontre Logan behind him with 7 tackles each.

Frostburg Leaders

Graham Walker led his Bobcats with 110 passing yards through the air. Jammil Bishop found himself receiving most of these throws tallying up his total receiving yards to 83 with the longest being 66 yards. Josh Maxwell contributed to his offense with a total of 108 rushing yards. On the defense, Dylan Culpen contributed to his pack with a total of 7 tackles.

Inside the First Half

The Bobcats from Buckhannon looked quite promising and came out with so much intensity which led Frostburg to throw an interception which was picked by Ely Ghameshlougy. Although the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats had a very enjoyable start, they were not able to capitalize on any drive. With 4 minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Frostburg Bobcats went for a field goal attempt to get themselves 3 points closing out the quarter. In the second quarter, Isaiah Lester from Frostburg rushed for 31 yards which ended in a touchdown giving them the 10-0. On the next drive for Frostburg, Walker found Bishop for 66 yards all the way for a touchdown. Frostburg ended the half on top leading 17-0.

Inside the Second Half

On Frostburg’s second drive of the third quarter, the offense was able to get in field goal range allowing Dayne Koontz to get another field goal and get another 3 points for this team. In their next drive, Koontz was able to get another field goal giving Frostburg the lead 23-0. Towards the end of the third quarter, Culpen intercepted a ball and was able to get a touchdown. In the following quarter, the Frostburg quarterback was able to find Donnel Milligan in which he was able to get yet another touchdown. Frostburg won the game 37-0.

Up Next

West Virginia Wesleyan will play its final game of the season away next Saturday (Nov. 12) versus Glenville State. The contest will begin at 1 p.m.
