Crise, Meyers Set to Lead Bobcat Track & Field/XC Programs

West Virginia Wesleyan College Athletic Director Randy Tenney has announced the new head coaches for the Bobcat Track & Field/Cross Country programs.

On the women’s side. Tenney has named current Bobcat assistant and former standout Alan Crise has the head coach. Crise had already been named as the team’s head cross country coach, and is now head of the full women’s program. Crise was an all-conference performer for the Bobcats, and was a member of four MEC title teams from 2014-17. He was a decathlete during his prime, and was conference champion in the javelin.

On the men’s side, Tenney has named former Bobcat athlete and assistant Dan Meyers as the head coach. Like Crise, Meyers will be handling both track and cross country head coaching duties. Myers was a member of the 2014 championship team, and was an assistant coach on the 2015 and 2016 title teams. For the past two years, he has served as assistant coach and Admissions Counselor for Davis & Elkins College. At D&E Meyers coached under another former Bobcat assistant, Coach Jason Pyles, and together they were able to get the new Davis & Elkins track program off and running in a solid direction.

“I’m extremely excited for the direction of our program,” Crise said. “Coach Meyers has been a friend of mine for years, and he knows the culture here well. This team is made up of some great kids who are very adamant on getting this program in the right direction.”

When asked about his new role, Meyers stated “Words can not express my excitement to be head coach of the men’s team at my alma mater and work along side a great friend in Alan Crise”…. “I feel blessed that Mr. Tenney and the administration are giving me this opportunity so early in my career… Wesleyan has such a long history of success in Cross Country and Track, myself and Coach Crise hope to build on that in future years”

Crise and Meyers will be working together with various event groups, and they are focused on keeping the program as one family unit; both genders, and all four programs. Both coaches are disciples of the team unity concept they learned as athletes and assistants during their time under long time head coach Jesse Skiles.

“I am excited to hear of the hiring of Coach Crise and Coach Meyers into these positions,” Skiles said. “They are both true track minds…very knowledgeable coaches, both in technique and with their knowledge of training systems and the weight room. They are also both very aggressive recruiters. Even when they were student-athletes in the program, I had no doubt that they would someday be very effective coaches.”
