Soccer ‘Cats earn 1-1 tie on the road with Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-2-3, 2-2-3) men’s soccer team earned a point against Frostburg State (2-5-3, 1-5-3) by a score of 1-1 on Wednesday (Sept. 28) at Bobcat Stadium. Wesleyan’s Sinasi Emre Deniz netted the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

In the first half, WVWC came out quick and looked very promising after Deniz registered a shot on target just after ten minutes. Frostburg State quickly rallied and was able to find the back of the net after a cross that found Renzo Vargas and into the back of the net.

In the second half, the Bobcats from WVWC came out with more intensity and looked promising. After constant pressure, Deniz was able to find himself in the area and draw a foul to cause a penalty. Deniz calmly placed the penalty to the left of the keeper to level the score 1-1. After a constant back and forth battle, none of the Bobcats were able to come out on top.

The WVWC Bobcats are back home on Sunday (Oct. 2) for a match versus Notre Dame (Ohio). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
