Soccer Lady Bucs pick up two more wins this week over East Fairmont and Robert C. Byrd

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc soccer team won a pair of 1-0 contests in Big 10 Conference action this week.

At home on Wednesday in their home finale, the Lady Bucs downed East Fairmont by that 1-0 score and then on the road in Clarksburg on Thursday, they defeated Robert C. Byrd by that same 1-0 score.

The two victories left the Lady Bucs of head coach Bob Greenough with an 8-4-2 record overall and a 7-2 mark in the Big 10 Conference.

In Wednesday’s outing with East Fairmont, Ava Hollen had the lone goal of the game in the 70th minute with the assist going to Harley Dean.

“This was a very physical game,” said Greenough. “We had some opportunities early on but couldn’t stick them in the net.”

The Lady Bucs held a 5-4 margin in shots-on-goal and a 3-0 margin in corner kicks.

In Thursday’s outing with Robert C. Byrd, Grace Queen tallied the game’s lone goal in the 40th minute with Dean again getting the assist.

“Robert C. Byrd matched up well with us and it was a grind throughout the entire match,” stated Greenough. “We struggled breaking them down defensively in the first half, but started to get some numbers moving forward in the second half. Grace hit a nice low and away ball in the second half to give us the win with a nice assist from Harley.”

The Lady Bucs owned a 7-3 lead in shots-on-goal and a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

Buckhannon-Upshur will be back in action Saturday at George Washington with the contest kicking off at noon.
