West Virginia reports 3,036 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 3,036 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 130 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (35), Barbour (48), Lewis (21), Randolph (17) and Webster (19) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of five active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 93-year old female from Marion County, a 75-year old male from Harrison County, a 78-year old male from Mercer County, and a 98-year old female from Harrison County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 4, 2022, there are currently 3,036 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,173 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 341 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 58 currently in intensive care and 18 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 8.45%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
