WVWC’s Kimmons selected as Mountain East Conference NCAA Woman of the Year nominee

INDIANAPOLIS – Recent West Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball graduate Malaika Kimmons was picked by the Mountain East Conference as their nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year on Monday (July 25).
 
Kimmons was one of 577 women nominated for the award and was selected as a conference nominee by the MEC. 151 conference offices have submitted nominations for NCAA Woman of the Year. Kimmons is one of 39 Division II Woman of the Year nominees.
 
On the court, Kimmons averaged 5.5 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game during her four-year career at Wesleyan. The Apex, N.C., native graduated with a degree in Biochemistry in May.
 
Off the court, she was the Vice President of the Black Student Union and the Secretary of the Student Union. Kimmons was involved in Benzene Ring, WE LEAD, Gender Equality Team and the WVWC Gospel Choir during her time in Buckhannon.
 
The 151 conference-level nominations will be sent to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee, which will choose the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. The NCAA will reveal the Top 30 honorees on ncaa.org in October. The selection committee will identify the top three finalists in each division and the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced during an award ceremony at the NCAA Convention in January of 2023.
