Raising the Jolly Roger With…Miranda Greene

Miranda Greene (Brian Bergstrom/My Buckhannon).

TENNERTON — In continuing to bring you the best sports coverage in Upshur County, the My Buckhannon sports department is pleased to bring you another edition of our exclusive — Raising the Jolly Roger With…

In ‘Raising the Jolly Roger With…’ the My Buckhannon sports department will interview a senior student-athlete from Buckhannon-Upshur to get to know them better and what makes them tick both on and off the field. Don’t settle for cheap knockoffs!

Our student-athlete this week is Miranda Greene— enjoy!

1. Please list all the sports you have played at B-U and what year you played them? I have played soccer and lacrosse for seven years – all through middle school and high school.

2What has been your favorite athletic moment at Buckhannon-Upshur that you participated in? Definitely receiving the All-American Lacrosse Player Award from USA Lacrosse my junior year.

3. Describe your toughest practice at Buckhannon-Upshur. What sport and who was the coach? Definitely having to do 100 yard sprints at the end of a lacrosse practice! Jamie Greene is our coach and although we all hate them, we know it’s to get us in shape and ready for our big season.

4. Do you have a favorite saying from one of your head coaches? “We don’t win our games from one person making the shots but as a team who works together to make those shots happen.”

5. What was or is your favorite class you have taken at Buckhannon-Upshur and who taught it? Why was it your favorite? Geography – taught by Mrs. Swift, one of my favorite classes because I got to learn about the world and all the different cultures.

6. What is your favorite thing about being a Buccaneer? Playing sports and getting to be a part of a team and making amazing friends and memories.

7. If you were asked to play another sport, what would it be and why? Hockey! I honestly don’t know why but it has always struck an interest in me and I feel like it would be fun to play and learn – I think it’s very similar to lacrosse and since I love lacrosse so much that could be why I think I’d like it.

8. Who is your hero and why? My dad, who has also been my coach for years in both soccer and lacrosse! He’s always pushing me to be the best I can be and making me into the player I am today.

9. What do you want to be when you grow up? My dream is to travel the world and be a journalist. I would love to learn about all the different cultures, their way of living, their techniques, and just to appreciate everything they have to offer.

10. What are your initial plans after graduation this spring? I plan to attend Fairmont State University and major in Graphic Design and Photography.

11. What question do you hate to answer? What is your biggest weakness?

12Who is the best athlete in your family? I would have to say myself. I strive to be the best I can be in all the sports I play and I always work past my own limits. My sister is a close runner-up!! She was a great soccer player and I learned a lot from her!

13. Do you have a favorite vacation spot? If so, where? I would definitely love to visit The Big Apple! I love big cities and their sceneries and it would just be awesome to visit NYC!

14What is your favorite food and one thing you won’t eat? My favorite food would definitely be any type of pasta. Something I won’t eat is any kind of sea food.

15. What advice would you give to a young athlete ready to start his/her time as a Buccaneer? It’s gonna be difficult at first! You might have a bad coach that makes you want to quit but you just gotta push through that and keep pushing! The experience you gain from that will make you a better and stronger athlete! There will always be hard times, practices, games, etc. but as long as you keep your head up and continue to work with what you got, all the difficult days will get easier and you will come out on top as long as you push yourself past your own limits. Never Give Up! Always do your best and beyond!
