Tennerton Lions Club chips in to buy books for elementary school

TENNERTON — Tennerton Elementary School principal Tristen Gray asked for help to buy books and boost literacy, and the Tennerton Lions Club answered in the affirmative.

Last Wednesday, the Tennerton Lions donated $500 to a fund that will be used to purchase one book each month for every Tennerton Elementary School student.

The students themselves had already raised $700 when Tennerton Lions president Johnnaston Kimble and secretary Frank Becker stopped by the school Oct. 10 with the donation. The check cut the amount students need to fund one new book per student per month for the 2018-2019 school year down from $1,300 to $800.

Any person or group who wishes to help out should contact the school at 304-472-1278 or send a check made out to Tennerton Elementary School with “books” written on the memo line to: Tennerton Elementary School, 167 Gawthrop Rd., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
