John Russell Helton

On Friday, February 25, 2022, John “Russell” Helton, husband, father and papaw, passed away at 60.

Russell was born on August 16, 1961, to Robert and Thelma Helton of Beltsville, MD. Russell was an exceptional man. He lived a life of hard work and sacrifice for his family and friends. As a master of all trades, so many depended on him and loved him dearly. His love for his family was evident in the provisions he made for them. He never failed to fix what was broken or make you laugh. He loved his dog Reese, diet coke, onions, pizza, MASH, and The Andy Griffith Show. He loved Jesus Christ and served his church family faithfully. Russell was not a perfect man, but he is made new in Heaven with Jesus, experiencing joy forevermore.

He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Robert and Thelma Helton and his brother, Lee Helton. He is survived by his wife, Judy Kay Helton; daughter, Amanda and husband Dan Blake; son, John Helton and wife Laurel; grandchildren, Jude, Keller and Kase; brother, Mark Helton; sister, Janie Bemis and stepmother, Judy Helton. To all who loved Russell, he “wasn’t just another pretty face.”

In honoring Mr. Helton’s wishes, he will be cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
