B-U swim teams split home meet with Robert C. Byrd

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur swim teams hosted Robert C. Byrd in a dual meet on Jan. 12 at the West Virginia Wesleyan College pool.

The Lady Bucs easily won a 79-18 decision while the Bucs were edged by a 66-64 score.

The Lady Bucs won eight of the nine events contested claiming five individual races and taking three relay events.

Earning firsts in the individual events were Cameron Zuliani in the 50-yard freestyle (25.85) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.27) Lillian Fetty in the 200-yard freestyle (2:34.78) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.91) and Alayna Whitehair in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.33).

The victorious relay teams were the 200-yard medley relay foursome of Abby Loudin, Whitehair, Zuliani and Fetty (2:16.06), the 200-yard freestyle quartet of Whitehair, Loudin, Fetty and Zuliani (2:01.29) and the foursome of Chloe Blonn, Cate O’Neil, Elly Jeran and Samantha Shay in the 400-yard freestyle relay (5:21.12).

The Bucs claimed six first places – four individual and two relays.

Picking up individual firsts were Preston Bennett in the 200-yard IM (2:08.85) and the 100-yard backstroke (57.54), Reis Leonard in the 500-yard freestyle (6:10.43) and Owen Caynor in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.40).

Getting relay firsts were the 200-yard medley relay unit of Bennett, Caynor, Dmetri Ormeno and Leonard (1:56.02) and the 400-yard freestyle foursome of Ormeno, Caynor, Leonard and Bennett (1:02.54).

“We are in the part of the season where you are not going to see many time drops,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Michael Roessing. “That said, we still had good swims overall by everyone.”

Both teams were scheduled to swim again on Jan. 19 at Elkins.
