Glenville State College preservice teachers complete student teaching internships

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Six students have completed their student teaching internships for Glenville State College (GSC) during the fall 2021 semester.

Andrew Camp of Spencer, West Virginia has completed his student teaching at Glenville State College. He completed his student teaching in Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Spencer Middle School with Joseph Cottrell and at Roane County High School with Kim Frum. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. John Ivens were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Amber and Robert Taylor of Spencer.

Morgan Golden of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) at Warm Springs Intermediate School with Christina Rose and in Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Pleasant View Elementary School where she served as a Clinical Teacher of Record with mentor Summer McClintock. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Kim and Kevin Golden of Berkeley Springs.

Cheyenna Henderson of Glenville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education (K-6) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Tanya Stewart and Rebecca Chesser. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Richard Henderson of Little Birch, West Virginia and Dawn Brown of Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Henderson resides in Glenville with her children, Kayome, Keevah, and Silas.

Taylor McClain of Camden, West Virginia completed her student teaching in English Education (5-Adult) at Calhoun Middle/High School where she served as a Clinical Teacher of Record with mentor Dr. Mary Gainer. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. Melody Wise were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Brian and Lisa McClain of Camden.

Jessica Smarr of Sutton, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education (K-6) at Burnsville Elementary School with Joyce Stump and in Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Robert L. Bland Middle School as a Clinical Teacher of Record with mentor Amber Richards. Dr. Shelly Ratliff and Dr. Will Vann were her GSC supervisors. She and her husband Nathan have three children, Andrew, Brehana, and Austin.

Carissa Yoak of Grantsville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education (K-6) at Pleasant Hill Elementary School with Vicki Hardaway. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Eddie and Donna Yoak of Grantsville. Yoak was also recognized as the Outstanding Student Teacher Intern for the fall 2021 semester.

Senior teacher education students take part in an internship during their final semester at GSC. At the conclusion of their internship students must complete a presentation illustrating their mastery of the Interstate New Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards as well as the standards of their particular area of study.
