State Police: Man killed Wednesday in wreck on I-79 south of Weston

News Release

December 9, 2021

On Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 7:50 a.m., Corporal George Jones was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries and a death on Interstate 79 at approximately the 81-mile marker. A semi-truck and SUV were involved in the crash.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old, Donte Pierre Arthur Lewis Mapp Jr. of Eastman, Georgia. The deceased was the driver of the SUV.

Two other male occupants were transported from the SUV to Braxton Memorial with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was also transported to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation remains active and ongoing.
