Volleyball Lady Bucs fall in sectional play to Bridgeport

KINGWOOD – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc volleyball team saw their season come to an end in sectional play Tuesday against the Bridgeport Indians at Preston High School.

The Lady Bucs, who were the third seed in the sectional tournament, lost to No. 2 seed Bridgeport in straight sets – 25-13, 25-18 and 25-12.

The Lady Bucs closed out their season with a 17-14-1 record.

The Lady Bucs served up five aces with Alyssa Abel getting two and Meghan Bailey, Kendall Currence and Shelby McDaniels one. Buckhannon-Upshur managed 13 kills with Kendall Currence getting six and Caroline Frye three.

Bailey led the team in assists with eight. Frye paced the squad in digs with seven while Tori Perkins collected six. Currence had all three blocks for the Lady Bucs.

“I am very proud of the work each of these girls put into this season,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Ashley Stanton. “I am blessed to have coached this group of seniors over the last seven years. We have had a lot of fun together. They have made a great impact on my life. I can only hope I have done the same for them. I wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”

In the other sectional match-up, top seed University downed fourth-seeded Preston. In the title game, Bridgeport beat University. Both teams will advance to the regional tournament this Saturday at John Marshall.
