Volleyball Lady Bucs come up just short in regular-season finale

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur volleyball Lady Bucs pushed University in all three sets but came up just short in each, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Hawks Tuesday at the high school.

The Lady Bucs dropped the sets – 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21.

The game also wound up being the unexpected regular-season finale for the Lady Bucs.

They were slated to play East Fairmont Thursday but the Bees canceled on head coach Ashley Stanton and her Lady Bucs.

“East Fairmont canceled on us for Thursday, so as far as I know, this is our last in-season game,” noted Stanton.

The Lady Bucs served up six aces in the three-set affair with Kendal Currence getting three, Caroline Frye two and Alyssa Abel one.

Buckhannon-Upshur had 26 kills led by Currence with eight and Cadence Ringer with five. Meghan Bailey had 19 assists to lead the team in that category while Frye paced the team in digs with 15.

Currence had a team-best five blocks.

The Lady Bucs will now move onto sectional play on Tuesday at Preston, but Stanton wasn’t sure of the seedings at press time. The Lady Bucs’ sectional includes Bridgeport, Preston and University.

“I am not sure at this point who we will be playing,” concluded Stanton.
