36 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 36 new cases of COVID-19 had been identified in the Mountain State, taking the total number of cases over the 1,900 mark.

No additional deaths were reported.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on May 28, 2020, there have been 91,036 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,935 total cases and 74 deaths,” according to a press release.

Webster County reported its first case of COVID-19 on Thursday; Doddridge is now the only county in West Virginia without a case.

Randolph County, meanwhile, will offer free community testing on Saturday as medical officials say the outbreak at the Huttonsville Correctional Center has begun to spread in the community.

More than 120 cases have now been confirmed in Randolph County, including those at Huttonsville.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Hampshire, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Mineral, Monongalia, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Putnam, Randolph, Roane, Wayne and Webster counties.

About 629 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,232 people have recovered and 74 have died, a mortality rate of about 5.7 percent.
