The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced 26 new cases of COVID-19 had been found in the state on Friday, including one additional case in Barbour County.
The new cases pushed the cumulative total over the 1,300 mark to 1,323.
One additional death was also reported. The 52nd death in West Virginia attributed to the virus is an 82-year old male from Berkeley County, the DHHR said.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 8, 2020, there have been 59,567 laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,323 positive, 58,244 negative and 52 deaths,” according to a press release.
The cumulative positive rate remained 2.2 percent. The daily rate of positive cases reported Friday was 1.7 percent.
About 38 percent of the West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 761 people have recovered and 52 have died, a mortality rate of about 6.4 percent.
New cases were reported Friday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Clay, Fayette, Hancock, Hardy, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Ohio and Wood counties.
