WVWC sweeps MEC track and field awards this week

BRIDGEPORT – West Virginia Wesleyan swept this week’s Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards, the league office announced on Monday. Royell Salmon was named the Men’s Athlete of the Week, while Leigha Hall was recognized as the Women’s Athlete of the Week.

The MEC Athlete of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Salmon, a freshman from Houston, Texas, won the long jump and 200 meter at this week’s Bethany Invitational. He currently ranks first in the conference in the high jump and long jump, while ranking fourth in the league in the 200.

Hall, a junior from Green, Ohio, took first in the 3000 steeplechase at the Bethany Invitational over the weekend. The result ranks her first in the MEC and ninth in the nation so far this outdoor season.
