The West Virginia State Police is asking the public for information after a dead body was found in Braxton County on Monday.

On March 17, 2025, troopers from the West Virginia State Police Sutton Detachment recovered the body of an unidentified female in a rural area of Vernon in Braxton County. Through further investigation, the deceased was positively identified as 36-year-old Belinda Dawn Riffle of Braxton County.

Foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing and is being treated as a homicide.

The West Virginia State Police is requesting assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the WVSP Sutton Detachment at (304) 765-2101 or Braxton County 911.
