West Virginia reports 2,198 active COVID cases on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 2,198 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of two since the last report.

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (26), Barbour (18), Lewis (16), Randolph (26) and Webster (9) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 67-year old female from McDowell County.

Please note that the National Center for Health Statistics will be unable to certify deaths from June 6-20 due to a system update affecting all 50 states. This will result in a decrease in deaths reported during this time period.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 10, 2022, there are currently 2,198 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 6,999 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.

About 201 residents are hospitalized with the virus (50% unvaccinated, 50% vaccinated), with 36 currently in intensive care (53% unvaccinated, 47% vaccinated) and 7 on a ventilator (0% unvaccinated, 100% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 6.39%.

A total of 980,051 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said.  That’s about 55% of the state. About 507,593 booster doses have been administered.
