The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 1,114 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 180 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (19), Barbour (9), Lewis (8), Randolph (13) and Webster (3) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of five active cases in the last 24 hours.
One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 73-year old male from Berkeley County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 6, 2022, there are currently 1,114 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There has been one death reported since the last report, with a total of 6,880 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 111 residents are hospitalized with the virus (46% unvaccinated, 54% vaccinated), with 25 currently in intensive care (56% unvaccinated, 44% vaccinated) and 9 on a ventilator (44% unvaccinated, 56% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 5.59%.
A total of 975,060 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 54% of the state. Of those, 474,851 are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose.
