West Virginia reports 455 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths on Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday that 455 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (2), Barbour (1), Randolph (1) and Webster (2) counties.

A total of 38 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 74-year old female from Kanawha County, a 62-year old female from Ohio County, a 65-year old female from Taylor County, a 66-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 73-year old female from Harrison County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 10, 2021, there have been 2,541,058 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 145,754 total cases and 2,742 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,206 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 135,626 people have recovered and 2,742 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.16%.

A total of 451,677 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
