West Virginia reports 421 new COVID-19 cases on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 421 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (10), Barbour (7), Randolph (2) and Webster (3) counties.

A total of 74 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 68-year old female from Webster County. That is the first reported death from COVID-19 in Webster County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 26, 2021, there have been 2,157,910 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 131,234 total cases and 2,291 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,800 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 121,143 people have recovered and 2,291 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.99%.

A total of 183,537 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
