West Virginia reports 3,531 active COVID cases, seven new deaths on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 3,531 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 180 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (43), Barbour (40), Lewis (31), Randolph (35) and Webster (15) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of five active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Seven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – of a 66-year old female from Gilmer County, a 70-year old male from Lewis County, an 89-year old male from Cabell County, an 82-year old male from Braxton County, a 57-year old female from Grant County, an 86-year old female from Monongalia County, and a 94-year old male from Ohio County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 29, 2022, there are currently 3,531 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been seven deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,156 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 327 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 51 currently in intensive care and 13 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 9.02%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
