West Virginia reports 350 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 350 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (4), Barbour (2) and Lewis (3) counties.

A total of 41 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 77-year old male from Ohio County and a 50-year old male from Wetzel County.

“Spring is a time of hope and new beginnings,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary, in a press release. “In our sadness today, we must not lose sight of the ability to move beyond the pandemic by prioritizing safety measures and vaccination.”

About 6,851 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 133,910 people have recovered and 2,695 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.56%.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 4, 2021, there have been 2,488,126 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 143,456 total cases and 2,695 total deaths,” according to a press release.

A total of 353,361 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
