West Virginia reports 3,057 active COVID cases, four new deaths on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 3,057 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 357 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (36), Barbour (19), Lewis (22), Randolph (29) and Webster (8) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged of active cases over the weekend.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 74-year old male from Fayette County, an 82-year old female from Mason County, a 51-year old female from Boone County, and a 59-year old female from Putnam County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 8, 2022, there are currently 3,057 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been four deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,188 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 371 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 69 currently in intensive care and 19 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 17.11%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
