West Virginia reports 2,780 active COVID cases, eight new deaths on Wednesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that 2,780 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 37 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (56), Barbour (13), Lewis (24), Randolph (16) and Webster (31) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an unchanged number of active cases in the last 24 hours. 

Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 83-year old male from Jefferson County, an 86-year old male from Nicholas County, a 72-year old female from Fayette County, an 82-year old female from Greenbrier County, an 84-year old male from Raleigh County, a 94-year old male from Clay County, a 75-year old male from Greenbrier County, and an 85-year old female from Mineral County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 13, 2022, there are currently 2,780 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been eight deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,099 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 330 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 39 currently in intensive care and six on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 10.37%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
