West Virginia reports 2,150 active COVID cases, five new deaths on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 2,150 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 147 since the last report. 

Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (35), Barbour (13), Lewis (29), Randolph (23) and Webster (8) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of seven active cases since Friday.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 92-year old female from Kanawha County, a 55-year old female from Kanawha County, a 73-year old female from Randolph County, an 86-year old female from Clay County, and a 95-year old female from Jackson County. 

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 5, 2022, there are currently 2,150 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been five deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,069 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release. 

About 225 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 30 currently in intensive care and five on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 18.46%. 

About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
