The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 2,117 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 29 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (43), Barbour (10), Lewis (35), Randolph (41) and Webster (5) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of one active case in the last 24 hours.
Nine additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 89-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 77-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 67-year old male from Jefferson County, a 67-year old female from Putnam County, an 81-year old male from Ohio County, a 27-year old female from Wayne County, a 72-year old male from Monongalia County, a 100-year old female from Mineral County, and a 15-year old female from Raleigh County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of June 2, 2022, there are currently 2,117 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been nine deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,971 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 175 residents are hospitalized with the virus (53% unvaccinated, 47% vaccinated), with 23 currently in intensive care (48% unvaccinated, 52% vaccinated) and 13 on a ventilator (39% unvaccinated, 61% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 8.0%.
A total of 979,048 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 55% of the state. About 501,099 booster doses have been administered.
