The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 1,964 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 306 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (26), Barbour (11), Lewis (12), Randolph (14) and Webster (2) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of five active cases over the weekend.
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – both 75-year old females from Berkeley County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of May 16, 2022, there are currently 1,964 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been two deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 6,895 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 138 residents are hospitalized with the virus (51% unvaccinated, 49% vaccinated), with 19 currently in intensive care (37% unvaccinated, 63% vaccinated) and 9 on a ventilator (67% unvaccinated, 33% vaccinated). The daily percent positive was 11.58%.
A total of 976,584 people have been vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, the DHHR said. That’s about 55% of the state. About 485,143 booster doses have been administered.
