West Virginia reports 155 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 155 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Sunday’s daily updated was delayed for more than five hours due to technical difficulties, the DHHR said.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (3), Barbour (9), Lewis (4), Randolph (1) and Webster (4) counties.

A total of 60 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – of an 86-year old female from Mason County, and a 68-year old male from Berkeley County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of March 7, 2021, there have been 2,236,551 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 133,445 total cases and 2,325 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 5,737 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 125,383 people have recovered and 2,325 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.79%.

A total of 216,937 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
