West Virginia pre-candidates, candidates and political committees must submit third-quarter campaign finance reports by Wednesday, October 7.
Accounts that remain open must file even if they had no activity, or face late fees required by law, according to an October 6 release from the Secretary of State’s Office.
A new video from West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner walks viewers through the state’s online Campaign Finance Reporting System. Released Tuesday, the tutorial runs about 10 minutes.
“Campaign finance reporting is essential to transparent elections,” Warner said in the release.
The video explains how to find reports and follow contributions and spending for or against candidates and committees. Its six sections include searches by donor, candidate, office and district, along with independent expenditures and late filers.
Readers can watch the tutorial and search the system at cfrs.wvsos.gov or reach it through GoVoteWV.com.

My Buckhannon reported in April that the State Election Commission has jurisdiction over campaign finance reporting and disclosure requirements.
