Wesleyan’s WVWC Day Effort to Raise Funds to Assist Students Impacted by COVID-19

Buckhannon, WV—West Virginia Wesleyan College will hold its fifth annual WVWC Day on Tuesday, May 12.  This year’s one-day fundraising effort is focused on securing support to assist students who have been adversely impacted economically by COVID-19.

“We have established the Wesleyan Cares Emergency Fund to provide additional financial aid resources to help returning and incoming students attend Wesleyan,” said Bob Skinner ’75, vice president for advancement. “We are asking our alumni and friends to support these students and allow them to benefit from The Wesleyan Experience and pursue their educational goals.”

Wesleyan received $1.2 million through the CARES Act, which will provide financial assistance to students.  The College anticipates that total will fall short of the expected need for its students. The dollars secured for the Wesleyan Cares Emergency Fund will be distributed by the school’s financial aid office.  To make a gift for the WVWC Day effort, please go to www.wvwc.edu/give or mail a check to the Advancement Office, West Virginia Wesleyan College, 59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV  26201.

Wesleyan announced earlier this week that the College is beginning to take steps toward reopening for the fall semester.  Wesleyan President Dr. Joel Thierstein announced the establishment of a Safe Campus Task Force last month.

Wesleyan moved to an alternate delivery model with academic coursework in mid-March and celebrated the Class of 2020’s accomplishments during the Virtual Commencement Ceremony on May 2.  The ceremony recognized 320 members of the Class of 2020, including 270 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. The Virtual Ceremony was the first of its kind in the school’s 129 year history and also marked Wesleyan’s first two doctor of nurse practitioner graduates.
