Wesleyan women grab early lead and go on to crush Shepherd, 93-55

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan College women opened up a game-long full-court press from the starting tip and the Lady Bobcats toppled the Shepherd Rams 93-55, Thursday in Rockefeller Center in non-conference record.

Wesleyan raced out to a 30-7 lead after one quarter and led 57-18 at the break.

Fourteen Lady Bobcats scored in the game, going 33-for-78 from the field (42%) and 21-29 from the line (72%). Nearly a third of Wesleyan’s points (29) came off of the Rams’ 15 turnovers and the Lady Bobcat bench produced 36 points.

Emma Witt led the Wesleyan attack, scoring 21 points and five rebounds. Courtney Wilfong added 12 points and four rebounds and Charlotte Sherrill posted 11 points.

The Lady Bobcats are 2-0 to start the season due in large part to sweeping performances by both starters and bench players for 90-plus point totals in each game.

Wesleyan will see if it can maintain its energy as the women open conference play at Fairmont State University Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Feaster Center.
