Basketball ‘Cats drop 97-62 home decision to Concord

West Virginia Wesleyan fell 97–62 to Concord at the Rockefeller Center as the Mountain Lions erupted for 54.5% shooting, 51.7% from three, and a 47–24 halftime lead. Stephen Ovia scored 15 for the Bobcats, who head to Glenville State on Jan. 10.

BUCKHANNON.— West Virginia Wesleyan dropped a Mountain East Conference contest on Wednesday night, falling 97–62 to Concord University at the Rockefeller Center.

Concord set the tone from the opening minutes, building a 47–24 halftime advantage behind a dominating shooting performance. The visitors connected on 53.1 percent of their field goals in the first half and knocked down nine three-pointers, while also forcing turnovers that led to transition opportunities. Wesleyan struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, shooting under 40 percent in the opening period, but showed improved ball movement and aggressiveness after the break.

In the second half, the Bobcats played with better pace, scoring 38 points and attacking the paint, but Concord continued to answer with timely perimeter shooting and inside finishes. The Mountain Lions finished the night shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and 51.7 percent from beyond the arc, while also scoring 29 points off turnovers and getting 34 points from their bench

For Wesleyan, Stephen Ovia led the way with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, adding five rebounds. Adrijus Janciauskas followed with 14 points and two assists, while Curtis Litton chipped in nine points and three steals. The Bobcats also received contributions from Jerell Jean-Baptiste, who scored seven points off the bench, and Isaiah Baker, who added six points and worked defensively on the perimeter. As a team, Wesleyan shot 41.8 percent from the field and went 14-of-15 at the free-throw line.

Concord was paced by Boubacar Djigo, who posted 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Anfernee Hanna added 15 points and Khamani Wertz knocked down four three-pointers on his way to 12 points. The Mountain Lions placed six players in double figures and controlled the glass, finishing with a 37–18 rebounding advantage.

The Bobcats travel to Glenville State University Saturday, Jan. 10. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
