Wesleyan softball remains winless in Florida

Grand Valley State 10, West Virginia Wesleyan 6 (Wednesday)

Clermont (Fla.) — Grand Valley State earned a strong 10-6 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan in a high-scoring matchup. The Lakers capitalized on a powerful offensive display, including several key doubles and timely hitting, while their pitching staff held firm to secure the win.

Scoring Summary:

1st Inning: Grand Valley State struck early with back-to-back doubles. Faith Edwards doubled to center field to score Eliana Eiland, and Grace Usher followed with another double, bringing Edwards home to make it 2-0.

2nd Inning: The Lakers extended their lead with a big inning. Eiland singled to second base, driving in two RBIs, and Madelynn Pope and Carsyn Segorski scored. A couple of additional lineouts, including a hit by Morgan Spicer and Eliabeth Wesoloski, put Grand Valley State up 6-0.

3rd Inning: West Virginia Wesleyan answered with a big three-run blast from Andie Dizon, who homered to right field, bringing home Hallie Dinklocker and Alyssa Rohr. Later in the inning, Rhiannon Godley drew a walk and then scored on a single by Rohr, bringing the score to 6-6.

4th Inning: The Lakers responded with a couple of key hits. Karli Dorr doubled to center, scoring Edwards, and Mary Jane Goodman added a double to bring Kenedy Coombe across the plate, giving Grand Valley State an 8-6 lead.

5th Inning: Grand Valley State tacked on two more runs as Wesoloski doubled to center, driving in Edwards and Pope to extend their lead to 10-6.

A Beverly woman allegedly ran a stop sign on Main Street in Buckhannon, causing a Dec. 27 crash that involved three vehicles and struck the First Community Bank building, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department’s wreck report.

Woman extricated after Route 33 crash near Huddle House; truck driver cited

A Salem woman was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated after a two-vehicle crash on Route 33 north of the Huddle House. Police say a truck driver attempting to cross lanes to turn left was cited for failing to yield.
