BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan College’s recent WVWC Day effort on April 10, has helped the school reach the $2 million U.S. Department of Education’s Title III Endowment Challenge. The college secured over $450,000 in donations for its scholarship endowment, current scholarships and the Title III Challenge.
Wesleyan was awarded a $10 million grant under the Department’s Strengthening Institutions Program in October 2014. Twenty percent of the grant required the college to secure $2 million to receive an additional $2 million for Wesleyan’s endowment.
Over 1,650 alumni and friends donated to the Title III Challenge, which will result in the college increasing its endowment by $4 million.
“We are obviously extremely grateful to the many people who endorsed their belief in Wesleyan by supporting this effort,” stated Bob Skinner ’75, vice president for advancement. This has been a great team effort and the endowment increase will strengthen Wesleyan’s financial future.
The Department of Education grant has resulted in a complete makeover to a number of classrooms across the campus as well as a major renovation to the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library. The facility will re-open as the campus’s 24-7 academic hub in August.
