Volleyball Lady Bucs earn split with East Fairmont, Grafton

FAIRMONT – The Buckhannon-Upshur volleyball Lady Bucs just missed out on a sweep of East Fairmont and Grafton in their Big 10 Conference tri-outing at East Fairmont.

The Lady Bucs beat East Fairmont in straight sets, outlasting them by a 27-25 score in set one and then easily putting them away in set two by a 25-15 score.

The Lady Bucs took the first set from Grafton without any issues by a 25-12 score but came up just short in set two by a 25-21 score and in set three by a 26-24 count.

The Lady Bucs racked up eight aces in their sweep over East Fairmont, with Shelby McDaniels getting three, Kendal Currence and Tori Perkins two each and Caroline Frye one.

Currence and McDaniels led the teams in kills with five each, Meghan Bailey paced the team in assists with 14, McDaniels was tops in digs with four and Currence had a team-best five blocks.

Against Grafton, McDaniels had seven of the 11 aces for Buckhannon-Upshur.

Alyssa Abel led the squad in kills with nine, Bailey had a team-high 18 kills while Frye paced the team with 16 digs.

The team had 10 blocks with Currence leading the way with four.

The split left the Lady Bucs with a 7-6 record.

They are scheduled to be back in action Monday hosting Petersburg.
