Visitors drive lodging, retail and restaurant spending in Upshur County
Upshur County and Buckhannon will begin substantial damage determinations this week for properties in the Special Flood Hazard Area affected by the July 21-22 flooding. Findings may trigger permitting, mitigation or compliance steps during recovery.
Buckhannon’s Aug. 10-14 calendar includes public board meetings and Colonial Arts Center events, along with flood recovery announcements about park closures, debris collection and permit fees.
Lauren Spadafore Gall is the new executive director of the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce. She plans to connect with local businesses, strengthen Chamber support and create events that bring the community together after July’s flooding.
Upshur County is under a flood watch through Friday morning as repeated storms threaten heavy rain and flash flooding. Tuesday poses the greatest risk, exactly three weeks after deadly flooding devastated the region.
