Vernon Eugene Bennett

Vernon Eugene Bennett, 81, of Buckhannon, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, March 25, 2024.

He was born in Troy, WV, on June 22, 1942, a son of the late Reverend Talbert Nelson Bennett and Louella “Maxine” Chapman Bennett.

Vernon is survived by his brother, Lowell Bennett of Buckhannon; one niece, Sarah Harper and husband, John, of Charles Town; one nephew, Steven Bennett and wife, Amanda, of Millwood; and three great nieces: Zoe Harper, Kayleigh Bennett, and Hallie Bennett.

Vernon was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1960 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He then devoted his talents to teaching/music in Barbour, Lewis, and Upshur counties. His passion for music was matched only by his love for his community, which he served faithfully as a case worker for the Division of Health and Human Resources. An accomplished pianist and organ player, Vernon’s music graced the halls of many churches, weddings, and events, and he was a cherished member of the New Community Church. He also enjoyed volunteering during elections and was known for his delightful company at dinner gatherings with friends.

Because Vernon was such a kind and giving person who spent his time helping others, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local charity of choice in memory of Vernon.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2024.
