US Public Health Service Planning Walk Run To Benefit Military Museum

Local resident Tammy Thomason is planning a 5K Walk/Run on May 4 in downtown Weston in cooperation with the US Public Health Service. The Walk/Run will begin at 11 a.m.by the Military Museum/Fire Department on Center Avenue, Weston. Participants can register that morning beginning at 10 a.m. or can register at https:// www.webscorer.com/members/racesetup?saved=top&raceid=170904.

There will be prizes for the top three winners and the cost is $15. Part of proceeds will benefit the Military Museum. Call 304-452-0490 for information.

The race is part of the 2019 Pace Yourself Lewis County Walk/Run Circuit. The previous runs included the January Snowball Walk Run, the second annual Ground Hog Jog; the Irish Spring Snake Chase at Ireland, and the 12th annul Weston 5K Walk Run. After the May 4th event there will be:

June – Rush Run Walk Run

July 6 – Fireworks Trail Run/Walk at Resort

August – Lewis County Faith and Family 5k run/walk with the proceeds benefitting Our Neighbor.

September 29 – Relay for Life of Lewis County Color Walk/Run WVU Airstrip

October 13 – 4-H Clover Run at WVU Jackson’s Mill

November 22 – Gobble Gallop in downtown Weston

December 15 – Cookies and Cocoa Walk Run at SJMH

This circuit is a combination of prior existing races such as the Rush Run at Stonewall Resort, the Weston 5K and newly formed races. Kevin Stalnaker, Assistant CEO at SJMH stated “The Community has directed us in our Community Assessments over the years that the obesity epidemic is something critical to our area. As such, we want to encourage healthy lifestyles and continued physical activity opportunities are key in those efforts.” These races are for the competitive and noncompetitive individual. Walkers are always welcome and encouraged. Stalnaker continued ”I participate in many of these events myself and at just about every race, someone says, ‘this is my first 5K, but not my last.’”
