BUCKHANNON — According to a press release issued by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, deputies with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office assisted the U.S. Marshals Service in the search of a wanted sex offender, David Tyler Raines, on June 26, 2023.
Agents and deputies located Raines, who is wanted on multiple felony warrants, at a residence on Reger Run Road in Upshur County, according to the release. While searching the residence for Raines, officers located a loaded .22-caliber rifle, methamphetamine, and the meat from a recently taken deer in the living area.
A permanent resident of the home, Joseph Dale Simmons, was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor capias. It was determined that the rifle had been used to take a whitetail deer illegally, the news release says.
Both Joseph Simmons and David Raines were subsequently charged with Prohibited Possession of Firearms by persons convicted of felony crimes of violence against another person.
