Upshur County residents affected by July flooding have until October 17 to apply for federal disaster assistance after a two-week deadline extension.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the extension Governor Patrick Morrisey requested September 27, according to an October 2 release from his office. Flood-affected individuals and families in Lewis, Pleasants and Ritchie counties also may qualify for assistance.
“West Virginians impacted by these floods have been through a lot, and we want to make sure everyone eligible has the opportunity to get the help they need,” Morrisey said in the release.
Applications can be submitted at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App or with help from the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Callers can get assistance in several languages. Residents can also apply in person at a disaster recovery center.
The recovery centers in Upshur and Lewis counties will continue serving residents through October 17. They are at the Upshur County Development Authority, 21 E. Main St., Buckhannon, and the former Summit Center, 37 Elizabeth St., Weston. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The West Virginia Emergency Management Division also provides information by phone at 304-558-5380 and on its website, emd.wv.gov.
