Upshur County reports two new COVID-19 cases Wednesday as state records second-highest daily increase

Two more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Upshur County on Wednesday amid a surge of 74 new cases statewide, the second-highest single-day increase since the pandemic began.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on July 1, 2020, there have been 175,117 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,979 total cases and 93 deaths,” according to a press release.

Randolph County reported six new cases on Wednesday. Ten cases in Upshur County and 14 in Randolph County are currently active, according to DHHR data.

In total, new cases were reported Wednesday in Berkeley, Cabell, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Upshur, Wayne and Wood counties.

In the past seven days, 350 new cases have been reported in West Virginia, the highest one-week jump on record.

About 564 West Virginia cases remain active, according to the DHHR. Of the cases that are no longer active, 2,322 people have recovered and 93 have died.
